Matt is a native of Hawthorne, New Jersey -a few miles outside of NYC. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Matt earned and accepted a commission in the United States Navy.

Matt specialized in nuclear submarine operations and nuclear power generation during his military career. He served on several fast-attack Los Angeles class submarine, and completed many classified missions vital to National Security during multiple extended deployments.

Highlights of other assignments include: Instructor of “Officer Submarine Tactics” at Navy’s Submarine School (concurrently, he earned an MBA from the University of Connecticut), an inspector with the Nuclear Propulsion Examination Board, and an 18-month tour with COMMANDER MIDDLE EAST FORCE for which he volunteered.

After retiring from military service, Matt entered the world of Mergers & Acquisitions.  In his first step, Matt acquired an existing business that was barely breathing in a struggling Hawaii and national economy.  The business had five active clients, and in less than six months, Matt increased that amount to over 100.  Shortly, thereafter, Matt founded, staffed, and trained “Smith Floyd Mergers & Acquisitions” which continues to grow and thrive.  Smith Floyd Hawaii has assisted over 100 business owners in the successful sale of their business during one of the worst economic periods in our lifetime.

Josh Patrick has owned and operated a variety of businesses dealing with food, including food vending, coffee service, catering, and wholesaling, and several others dealing with food. Terry Freeman is a long time energy services, construction and maintenance executive, investor and board director. He was with Flint Energy Services Ltd. as CFO and Board Director for 20 years, helping oversee its growth from $20 million in revenue to $2 billion and its eventual sale to URS. During a five year stint as a Managing Director for Northern Plains Capital, a niche private equity firm specializing in oil field services and energy industrial companies Terry assisted in the deployment of $140 million over three funds in 19 different businesses. More recently Terry started Corrosion and Abrasion Solutions Ltd., a service company providing industrial sand blasting and coatings services to energy producers and transporters, pipe and steel fabricators and others. He remains on the Board of Directors of a number of other energy services companies.
